About the Cyclone Jim Archive

CycloneJim.org is an independent historical tribute to Jim Leonard, the pioneering storm chaser known as Cyclone Jim. After the original CycloneJim.com address became inaccessible, this project began recovering surviving webpages, photographs, chase accounts and the 2014 memorial from archived sources.

Who is preserving this?

This project is curated by meteorologist Rob Jones, who knew Jim, chased with him, and worked in broadcast meteorology and weather research. It is supported by Rob Jones through his interest in documenting weather history, hurricanes, meteorology, and hurricane chasing.

Connected weather archives

1926Hurricane.com is the companion digital exhibition devoted to the Great Miami Hurricane, with photographs, films, maps, official observations and eyewitness records.

BroadcastMeteorologist.com is Rob Jones’s personal website, bringing together his broadcasting work, weather coverage, career history and current projects. Follow Rob’s current work on YouTube, Instagram, Facebook and Bluesky.

Historical integrity and rights

The restored pre-2014 website and the subsequent memorial are presented as separate historical editions within the modern archive viewer. Original source files are preserved separately, and the surrounding modern navigation is clearly distinct from Jim's original work.

Photographs, recordings, writings and other historical content remain subject to their respective owners' rights. This archive is not presented as the official website of Jim Leonard's estate. Jim's original YouTube videos remain linked to their original uploads; this archive does not claim their advertising revenue or control of that channel.
